She is renowned for her striking looks, regularly referred to by her legion of fans and followers as ‘The Body’, but this star has revealed that a recent health scare urged her to re-evaluate her life and make some big changes.

Supermodel Elle MacPherson has opened up about her cancer scare for the first time in an interview with the Mail on Sunday this weekend.

The star, who is a mother-of-two, revealed that she discovered a lump on her breast on her 49th birthday. Her first thought, she admits, was that she had cancer.

“I was away shooting Britain and Ireland’s Next Top Model, so I couldn’t see my doctor and I was really panicking. I was lucky it was a fibroadenoma [a benign growth] but it was a really big warning,” said the 50-year-old.

Elle went on to consult with a top nutritionist, who told her that her diet was too acid, and that she should consider some major life changes going forward.

“Disease thrives in an acidic body and I didn’t realise that stress, worry, jet lag, not enough sleep, and eating too much red meat, dairy or not enough greens can make your body acidic,” she explained.

Elle is mum to 17-year-old Flynn and 12-year-old Aurelius; her sons from her previous relationship with French financier Arpad Busson.
