With just over one born every minute there’s a lot of babies to dress and Mothercare has seen babygros fly off the shelves at a rate of four a minute!

That’s 2.2 million passing through the retailer’s tills this year alone – with parents buying on average 15 babygros in their baby’s first three months.

But the number is not that surprising really, as mum tend to change their infant's clothes THREE times a day.

While there has been a growing trend for gender neutral clothing, in a year of austerity and uncertainty, there has been a return to traditional colours for boys and girls fashion, with the majority of parents dressing their children in typical pinks or blues.

This is thanks in part to the influence of the royal family and how celebrities are dressing their little ones.

But the traditional way to shop has certainly changed with 82 percent of parents using the small hours to research and 60 percent buying products during the night, often through their mobile devices.

"We have seen parents look to traditional colours and styles to dress their children and it’s no surprise that the year has seen mobile dominate parents’ online shopping," Karl Doyle, Executive Group Product Director at Mothercare said.

"With instant research and purchasing capabilities in the palm of their hand, it means they don’t need as many arms as our top selling octopus toy to juggle all the challenges that modern parenting throws at them."
