Yesterday, we outlined plans for the British Government to turn all schools in England into academies, and it seems this significant move is going to have a knock-on effect on the length of your child’s school day.

With George Osborne set to announce his Budget provisions today, it has been reported that the school day is set to be extended for a significant proportion of schools.

Sources claim that schools will be expected to convert to academies by 2022 at the latest, and the projected extra funding raised will then go towards giving some quarter of secondary schools access to extra activities during the school day.

If the BBC’s report is anything to go by, the proposal will likely meet with some opposition, mainly on the grounds that only certain schools and students will benefit from the extra time for funded activities such as sport and art.

The proposed extension is just one of the ‘bold decisions’ Osborne has hinted at ahead of his eighth Budget.

We will keep you updated as more information emerges.
