It was just another morning on the lake for this Birmingham rowing club.

Up bright and early, young members of the Bishop Vesey’s Grammar School Rowing club took to the water to begin their training.

When approaching the lake, they found a small piece of paper taped to the bordering gate.

It read: “Please, can someone throw this into the lake for me?”

“My late husband’s ashes are in the lake and I can’t get to the lakeside in my wheelchair anymore.

“The gates are locked. I have to drive back up north tonight. Thank you x.”

Attached to the note was a single red rose.

Moved by the woman’s request, the club immediately fulfilled her wishes, laying the flower of remembrance into the middle of the calm water.

They then shared the note and their response on Twitter, hoping that the anonymous woman would see that her request was answered.

“This note was left on the gate at the water this afternoon. No name or number left,” they explained.

“But whoever you are, rest assured your rose is in place in the middle of the lake.”

The post has gone viral as people share the sweet news on social media.

“Beautiful thing to do”, one person commented.

“How lovely. I hope this makes it back to her,” said another.

It warms our hearts to see the young rowers’ good deed and we hope that, wherever she is, the anonymous woman sees their helpful hand in honouring her late husband.
