When you’re faced with magazine covers sporting model mums who look incredible just months after giving birth, it’s important to remember that NO ONE should be pressured to snap back into shape after giving birth – it’s also nice to hear those words coming from a celebrity, too.
This is why Zooey Deschanel has delighted so many women around the world this weekend, after slamming the pressure put on women to lose weight in the months after welcoming their babies.
In an interview with Redbook, Zooey revealed that she views any such pressure to be ridiculous – and she has first-hand experience, having welcomed daughter Elsie Otter with husband Jacob Pechenik last year.
"To expect someone to look like her pre-baby self immediately is odd. Because you just grew a human and then birthed that human — there's a lot that needs to go back to where it was. All your organs move around, for Christ sakes!" said the 36-year-old.
This isn’t the first time that Zooey has shared her thoughts on the subject, having previously told Cosmopolitan that she would not be the ‘super-skinny mum in a bikini one month after giving birth’.
We adore Zooey for her honesty on the subject.
