Following 12-year-old Tamir Rice’s death at the hands of Cleveland police last November, his devastated family have yet to receive answers and have been asked to halt their wrongful death civil lawsuit.

It has been suggested that the Rice family put a stop to legal proceedings until the official investigation has been concluded, but the child’s grief stricken family are concerned that vital evidence may be lost should they delay the process.

Tamir, who was shot in a Cleveland playground by police who assumed his toy gun was a deadly weapon, has yet to be laid to rest as additional medical examinations are currently pending.

Samaria Rice, who is struggling to understand why no one has been held accountable for her son’s death, has been forced to move into a homeless shelter because she cannot bear to live in close proximity to the scene of her son’s untimely demise.

Speaking on behalf of the family, attorney Benjamin Crump, said: “We come here to Cleveland, Ohio, brothers and sisters, where we had video capture the whole entire episode of what happened to claim this baby’s life. And yet, after five months and counting, no one has been charged, no one has been held accountable for the death of 12-year-old Tamir Rice.”

Our hearts go out to the Rice family as they attempt to negotiate the aftermath of this tragic event in the glare of the media spotlight.
