Four-year-old Jameson Meyer was born with Pfeiffer syndrome, a condition that causes premature fusion of skull plates and affects the shape of the head, and his mum Alice Ann blogs about his journey on Jameson’s Journey.
However, after posting a picture of her young son with chocolate and marshmallows on his face, Alice Ann was horrified to discover that the sweet picture had been turned into a meme that had been liked and shared thousands of times on Facebook.
And, quite rightly, she is not taking it lying down; uploading a powerful post on her blog entitled, This Is My Son Jameson, And No, You May Not Use His Photo, Alice Ann is determined to not “sit idly by”.
Addressing the person who created the meme in the first place, she wrote:
“On to the moral part of this story. I could sit idly by and tell myself that there are cruel people out there and that’s the world we live in. But, 1. You stole a photo of my 4 year old son. Say what you want out loud, to your friends, in the comment box, but do not take my photo to degrade my child. 2. I was told by someone on Instagram (not so nicely) to “chill” because this photo is not even a real person, it was photo shopped. Umm, no. That is definitely a person."
"If you are going to laugh and share this meme, I think you should know exactly what it is you are sharing and laughing at."
"So, to everyone that “LOL’d”, shared, and posted that meme, let me start by introducing you to the child you find so funny. His name is Jameson. He is very real, and he was born with Pfeiffer syndrome."
Understanding how the internet works, the mum refuses to give up the fight, and wants anyone who sees the picture to send her a screenshot and report it to whichever social media site you see it on.
“I promise you that as hurt as I am that someone created this meme I am not naive enough to believe there aren’t people out there who will mock and bully my child. But, I will always do what I can to encourage people to open their minds, hearts, and lives to Jameson and kiddos like him. We always Choose Kind, and we want you to as well [sic].”
