You asked

What emergency numbers should I keep near the phone?

Children tend to get themselves into all kinds of trouble as they explore the world. Even the most careful parent can find that their child gets hurt or injured unexpectedly. To make sure that you can always reach the right emergency service when something happens, keep a list with the following numbers close to the phone:

Your local emergency number
Poison control
Your child’s doctor and dentist (and any specialists that may apply)
Ambulance services
Your local police station
Your local hospital
The fire department

In addition to these basic emergency numbers, it’s important to also keep your child’s information handy. List all of these items close to the emergency numbers listed above:

Your child’s first and last names
Your child’s birth date and NI no.
Your child’s last measured weight
Details of any existing conditions or allergies
Your medical insurance policy details
Your details, your partner’s details, and a family member or friend (name, surname and contact number at a minimum.)

You can also list any other services you need to have around the house, such as the plumber, electrician or vet. A good idea is to type the information neatly on a piece of plain paper, and then have it laminated. Stick it on the wall or in a cabinet near the phone, and that way, it’ll always be on hand
.
Remember – when something happens, people tend to panic, and it’s hard to remember anything. Keeping information like this handy can save valuable time in an emergency!
