You go girl!
A woman who never thought she would EVER wear a bikini in public took the plunge – literally – and rocked a sexy two-piece on the beach for the very first time.
And how did she look? Amazing. And how did she feel? Awesome.
Jazzmyne Jay shied away from wearing a bikini for many years because she suffered with body image issues, even to the point of going through a series of eating disorders.
“I grew up just being around a lot of girls who were super thin and super blonde and super white,” Jazzmyne says in a video created by Buzzfeed to document her experience. “I idolised them and their figures more than I appreciated my own.”
But she decided that enough was enough, and that she wanted to work on being the most confident version of herself.
“I feel like I have it ingrained in my head that I’m not supposed to wear a bikini,” she says. “I want to do this because I see other women bigger than me wearing them and I’m like, ‘You go, girl.’ But if I put it on, I’m like, ‘No, girl’.”
So she chose a black bikini, and tentatively set off to the beach:
“The only things I could think about was how many people were going to be on the beach,” she says. “I think it’s just like, what people are going to say about me, what they’re going to think about me, and if I should actually be wearing this.”
But as soon as she made the conscious decision not to care what people thought, she began to feel more comfortable and at ease.
“The moment I felt most confident was when I started being like, whatever, you’re here, you are the beach in this bikini, just rock it.”
And after sharing a bikini photo on Instagram and receiving heaps of supportive comments, she feels way more confident.
“Before this experience I thought I could only wear high-waist swimsuits because of my body type, but now I feel like I should rock every type of swimsuit there is!”
We love this. Our philosophy has always been that if you have a body, then you have a beach body. Why should we cover up?
