The summer is well and truly over now that the kids are back in school, but that doesn’t mean all the fun has to stop. The mornings may be darker and the evenings a lot shorter but there are still plenty of things you and the kids can do outside.

Whether it’s raining, frosty, cold or just wet, there is no excuse not to be outside - just wrap up well.

Here are ten things you did in the summer that you can keep doing in the autumn:

1. Fly a kite

The sky is lined with kites throughout the summer, but that doesn’t mean you have to stop when autumn sets in. In fact, now is probably the best time as they wind will have picked up making it fly higher.

2. Exploring the beach

While you might struggle to find crabs and creatures in the cooler months, you are guaranteed to come across something that will keep your little ones intrigued for hours.

3. Build a fort

Head outside with some blankets and pillows and get building - if it's raining you can always bring it in inside!

4. Tree rubbings

Grab some colouring pencils and paper and send the kids outside to do some tree rubbings – the trunk might be a little wet but that’ll just add to the effect.

5. Garden

While they won’t be able to do too much planting there’ll be plenty of gardening and tidying up to do throughout the year.

6. Collect bugs

Armed with a jar, a magnifying glass and a pair of wellingtons send your youngster out to collect bugs and explore.

7. Chalk graffiti

Give your youngster free rein to draw, write and be creative on your pavement with colourful chalk. And the best thing is you won’t have to wash it away as the rain will do that for you.

8. Puddle hopping

You definitely did this in the summer but now that the puddles are deeper things have just become a lot more exciting.

9. Star gazing

You don’t need to stop doing this great summer activity just because the seasons have changed! While it may be a little trickier when it’s cloudy – that is half the excitement.

10. Blow bubbles

There is never a reason not to blow bubbles outside! Just make sure you pop a pair of gloves on your little one as wet hands get very cold in the autumn!
