Many of us mums see the summer holidays as the perfect opportunity to catch up on cleaning our kid’s rooms. And while it is not a task that we go into lightly, it is something that has to be done, at least until they are old enough to do it themselves.

At one point or another you will have to tackle the issue of under their bed, and you are likely to find the following ten things...

1. The missing sock

Not only have you been looking for it for months but you only just threw out the match last week.

2. Shoes that don’t fit

These will be going into the charity bag, but first you have to find its match.

3. Lots of hair clips

You have been wondering where the hundreds of hair clips and bobbins you’ve been buying over the years could have gone. Mystery solved.

4. A puzzle missing at least one piece

You'll only realise it’s missing after you've started to put it together.

5. A broken toy

And they’ll cry when you insist on throwing it out. This one will no doubt end up under the bed again.

6. Dust bunnies

And no, they are not as cute as they sound... You’re actually surprised your little one hasn’t developed some kind of breathing difficulties with the sheer amount they’ve been sleeping over.

7. An empty cup

This one’s been missing for months - be thankful there’s nothing growing in it.

8. A school book

It’s usually the one that has been missing since last September, the one your child swore they checked under the bed for...

9. A note from school

And you’ll never know if it was put there in purpose or by mistake...

10. A random flat football

You’ll now have to spend the next hour or two looking for the pump that is hiding somewhere in the house!
