There is nothing worse than finding the perfect gift for someone, only for them to either discover it or guess what it is from the breadcrumbs you have left behind. If you want to avoid such a disaster from occurring, then you need to listen up!

Having carried out research which showed that one in seven kids end up finding their presents online before Christmas Day, the Post Office has shared some tips for keeping those Santa gifts under wraps.

Close the browser

It sounds pretty straight-forward, but you would be amazed at the number of people who don’t close down their internet pages after browsing or placing an order. This is the simplest way to avoid prying eyes making a big discovery.

Clear your search history

It’s all well and good having multiple tabs saved to your search history, to help you remember what needs to be purchased, but our tech-savvy kids are always a step ahead and they will know exactly where to look for clues! Be sure to clear that history before walking away from your computer.

Use different passwords

You might think that ‘Mum loves Ella’ is a clever password, but rest assured your little ones are smarter than you think and they will know exactly how to get access to your desktop. For this reason, it’s a really good idea to use multiple passwords and set up a personal log-in system on any shared computers.

Set up a special email address for Christmas gifts

If they can log on to your computer, the chances are that they can get into your email account too. So, in the interest of leaving some surprises on the big day, set up a secret email address dedicated to your Christmas gift orders. You might just be able to pull the wool over their eyes with this one!

Use a ‘Click and Collect’ service

The last thing you want is to have a delivery of Christmas gifts show up on the doorstep when you’re not around to sign for them – and have the kids get a surprise preview of what’s going under the tree! Avoid this by using a ‘Click and Collect’ service, such as Royal Mail Local Collect at Post Office branches.

All together now - *sigh*!
