It's never too late to learn!

We are so inspired by this 52-year old man who is proof positive that you’re never too old for, well, anything!

Joseph Alba, from Manapla, Negros Occidental in the Philippines has decided to go back to primary school as a grade 1 pupil, reports ABS-CBN News.

Joseph decided to go back to school in Vicmico Elementary School so he can learn to read locations, street sign and directions, and he now sits in class with children aged 6-7, who according to teacher Fria Laguda, view him as an inspiration.

The inspirational scholar left school himself many years ago when he went to work at a local sugar cane farm when his father died. He now still lives with the family, who bought uniforms for him and provide him with a daily allowance so he can carry out his studies.

Susan Pasingca, a member of the family who employs Joseph, noticed he was very interested in the schoolwork of her Grade 2 granddaughter, and his zest for learning prompted the family to facilitate his newfound education.

According to ABS-CBN News, Joseph now plans to finish until at least Sixth grade and afterwards hopes to teach kids about the importance of reading.

We love this story. Adult literacy is an ongoing issue here, and many adults who didn’t finish school as children are now tentatively (and bravely) dipping their toes back into education. Joseph’s story proves that it really never too late to learn.
