Grandparents are such a special part of our children’s lives.
They take immense joy in their grandchildren and bestow upon them an unconditional love that’s just wonderful to watch.
Here are seven LOVELY reasons your kids are lucky if their grandparents play a part in their lives:
1. They pass on their skills
Whether it’s sewing, cooking or fishing, our kids’ grandparents have a host of skills under their belts to pass on. And even better, as many of them are retired, they have the time to spend teaching them. What better gift than a life-long skill?
2. They’re always there to help
Grandparents are selfless – and it’s well-known they would drop everything in a heartbeat for their grandchildren. This is such a valuable support for parents (and kids) who know they can call on them if they ever need help or advice.
3. They’re SO proud
Pride in their grandchildren is embedded in every grandparents’ DNA. This is fantastic in helping build our children’s’ self-esteem and worth. (Although maybe not so great for the friends who have to hear the constant proud boasting!)
4. They show a different side of us
Grandparents know what WE were like as children, a fascinating subject for kids who can’t help assume their mum and dad were born adults! Though their grandparents they learn about an alternative side of us – our childhood, what we were like, and of course our mischievous antics.
5. They’re wise
Grandparents have been through so much, so they have heaps of valuable wisdom to impart. Whether it’s about relationships, friends or career, they can be counted on to give fair, astute and constructive advice – and often our kids will be quicker to take it on board from their grandparents than us.
6. They learn from each other
It’s not just their grandparents teaching them things – our children are a dab hand at introducing them to new stuff too, from using an iPad, to giving them their TV show recommendations, to showing them their favourite healthy recipes.
7. That PURE love
The love between grandparents and their grandchildren is just the sweetest thing. They share a special relationship that warms our hearts every time we see them together.
