If you are trying to teach your child to be honest and not lie, it is important that you practice what you preach. However, sometimes mums will do or say anything just to get their youngster to eat that last piece of broccoli, get ready for bed and be good, to name but a few.

Here are 7 lies that a lot of mums have no doubt said to their big kid at least once.

'We’re almost there'
Admit it, you have said this to your little one even though it was going to be at least another hour before you arrived.

'If the wind blows, your face will stay like that'
We have all been there - a grumpy child who just won't come in the house. It is a little mean, but it does actually work.

'I’m not eating anything'
This is usually said with the last biscuit stuffed into your mouth.

'It’s chicken'
Sometimes you go to extreme measures to get your son or daughter to eat their dinner, even if it means telling them the fish they are eating is chicken.

'I’ll leave you here'
Getting your youngster out of the house can be a bit of a struggle, especially when they don’t want to go with you. However, this little lie ususally gets them moving.

'The park is closed'
The park is just not as fun when you are an adult, and it could be closed...

'Your tongue gets a black line when you lie'
This is probably the same lie your mum told you when you were younger. It won't be long before your little one is checking your tongue for a line.
