Ruthie Henshall is an Olivier award-winning actress who is currently undertaking the role of Mrs. Wilkinson in the West End production of Billy Elliot: The Musical.

Ruthie has long been a staple of the West End theatre, not to mention having stints on US shows such as Curb Your Enthusiasm and Law & Order.

In this interview, Ruthie talks, not only about the show, which she clearly loves dearly, but also about how she deals with a work-life balance as a mum-of-two.

Ruthie is a mum to two daughters, 11-year-old Lily and nine-year-old, Dolly.

Saying that working as an actress when kids are somewhat younger, Ruthie points out that it can get a little complicated once school starts and that it took this “incredible show” to bring her back to the West End.

The actress says that she can relate to the support her character shows to the boys in the musical, and though she was unsure about how she would feel about kids that are not her own at first, she is “crazy” about all of the boys in the stage production.

Ruthie says that working on the show teaches her girls two important lessons; that you have to work to pay your way in life, but that will focus and hard work, you can do what you love in order to achieve this.
