Flying with small children can be a stressful ordeal to say the least, which is why this novel idea will come as music to the ears of many parents out there.

Etihad Airways recognised a gap in the market when it comes to looking after children during long-haul flights, and has come up with a rather wonderful-sounding solution: flying nannies.

The new service, which is free-of-charge on long-haul flights, will see trained cabin crew members on hand to prepare cribs, refill bottles and keep children entertained, as well as look after unaccompanied minors.

The Flying Nanny Service has already been rolled out, and the company is hoping that their innovative new plan will make flying as easy as possible for parents and children alike.

The airline’s Vice President of Guest Services, Aubrey Tiedt, said: “Flying with a young family can be a daunting task, even for the most experienced travellers, and the Flying Nanny role demonstrates our understanding of our guests' needs and our commitment to making the journey as relaxing and comfortable as possible."

What a fantastic idea that is sure to make a big difference to families embarking on long, tiring flights.

What do you think of this new service?
