When a relationship ends, it’s expected that things will change drastically, especially when there are children involved.

From our living situation to the family dynamic, it can take a lot of readjusting to get used to the next chapter in our lives.

And while it is certainly a tough time for us, it can be much more difficult for the kids involved.

There are lots of things you can do to make life easier for your children during this tough time, like maintaining a routine.

Whether it’s their schedules or family traditions, keeping a sense of the life they lived before will help them adjust to their new situation.

That’s exactly what this family did and the results are truly heartwarming.

Proud mum-of-one, Victoria, shared some gorgeous family pictures on the Facebook page, Love What Matters.

However, the story behind the pictures is not what you would expect.

“The top two photos were taken when Adam and I were married. The bottom two, taken nearly one year, and over two years after our divorce was finalised,” reads Victoria’s caption.

“We are not in love, we don't always agree, we're not best friends, sometimes we don't even like one another.

“But you know what we are? We are forever connected because of our beautiful, smart, kind, compassionate, funny son.”

Realising the importance of this family tradition, Victoria and Adam selflessly made the decision to continue posing for this incredibly important picture each year, for the sake of their son.

“We RESPECT one another,” the mum-of-one continues.

“We remember that neither of our roles as parents take precedence over the other - neither one of us are any more important to the life of our son.

“We BOTH need to be there, we BOTH deserve quality time and quality memories with him.

“Neither of us blame one another for the direction our relationship took.

“We do not place blame on one another, and we certainly don't place blame in the presence of our son.”

Victoria goes on to reveal the deal she and her ex-husband made before they divorced.

They promised to make their son their number one priority and swore to recognise the importance of each other in his life.

“Our son will grow up to see respect, kindness, empathy, compassion, perseverance, flexibility, and even sacrifice, being modelled by both of his parents and he will know it is possible to fall out of love but never fall apart."
