It’s happened to us all at one point or another, that blood-run-cold moment when we’re in a shop, beach or crowd and we become separated from our child. So one local US police department has a simple yet effective piece of advice for parents over the busy summer months.

“Taking your young child to a big event, theme park, or other busy location?” the department wrote on Facebook. “Write your phone number on their wrist and cover it with liquid band aid in case you get separated. Also, take a photo of them using your cell phone the morning of the event so you have their clothing, hair style, and up to date photo. ‪#‎BePrepared.

“We posted this tip a few months ago and it was one of our most popular ever, so we decided to post again! Please ‪#‎share this post with parents who have children.”

We love this idea. Simply write your mobile number on your child’s wrist, cover up with some liquid plasters to make it waterproof and explain to them why you’re doing it – and if your little one does get separated momentarily, it will be easy for adults to get in touch with you.

And another option are SafetyTats, the temporary child ID tattoos made by US mum Michele Welsh. Michele created the business after she wrote her number on all three of her kids’ wrists during the holiday weekend Labor Day. Throughout the day she noticed that it had smeared or washed off, and she had to rewrite it several times. And so the SafetyTat was born.

Safety-oriented AND the kids will think they’re cool – win!
