A father of a 13-year-old boy, who was tragically hit by a bus while he crossed the road, has spoken of the devastation at the death of his son.

David Barcelos was just yards from the traffic lights when the incident happened at Fore Street in Edmonton, North London. His father, Mauel Barcelos, has described his son as “a special, amazing and lovely boy."

He added: "He had such a great future ahead of him. We can’t believe it. He was born in the hospital just down the road [North Middlesex Hospital] and now he has died here so close by. It is just so sad."

The youngster, who was treated by paramedics at the scene, was a huge Arsenal fan and wanted to play for the team when he was older. “He loved it. He had been playing since he was about six. He supported Arsenal and wanted to become a player. And we know he had the potential. He wanted to play for Arsenal," his father said

As he paid tribute to his son, Mauel revealed that Arsenal had in fact shown an interest in the youngster after he took part in community training sessions.

David’s uncle, Cesar Santos, also paid tribute to the youngster, saying: “He had so many friends, was very popular and used to work hard at his studies. The family is in complete shock. Everyone is devastated. He should have been starting his life now at this age.”

The story highlights the dangers of the road and the importance of teaching our children how to cross safely from an early age.

We are thinking of the family at this tragic time.
