An infestation of false widow spiders is affecting schools in London.

This week, Eastlea Community School in Canning Town announced it would be shutting down in regards to schoolchildren’s safety.

It is the seventh school in East London to shut down due to the increased spider spotting.

It will be closed for nearly two and a half weeks until October 29th, after the midterm holiday, reported BBC News.

Although false widow spiders are the most dangerous spider species in the UK, their bites usually only cause minor illness.

Nevertheless, please be wary of their presence if you are in that area of the city.

The other schools to close have all been in Newham:

-Lister Community School

-Rokeby School

-Star Primary School

-Ellen Wilkinson Primary School

Monega Primary School and Earlham Primary have been reopened after fumigation.

False widow bites leave small puncture marks on the skin, which can be painful and cause redness and swelling, according to the NHS.

Their bites can cause flu-like symptoms: nausea, vomiting, sweating and dizziness. Bites can also become infected or cause a severe allergic reaction in rare cases.

If you have any severe or worrying symptoms after a spider bite, get medical help immediately.
