With their dog Corky missing since 2009, Jimmy Montez and his family assumed they'd never see him again.

Corky, a terrier cross, managed to escape his outdoor kennel when he was just a pup and, sadly, the Texan clan never saw him again.

Despite going door-to-door and handing out flyers in a bid to find him, nothing happened. Resigned, they gradually accepted it and moved on.

Then, just last Saturday, they received a call from a dog shelter. Incredibly, little Corky had been found wandering the streets in Fort Worth. The staff were able to trace him back to the Montez’s thanks to his microchip.

“We were in shock when we got the news,” Jimmy told The Dodo. “We just couldn’t believe it.”

And the heartwarming stuff doesn’t end there.

Once the family arrived to pick Corky up from the shelter, they couldn’t help but notice how attached Corky had become to his one-eyed bestie, Captain – so they adopted him too!

“Our hearts just melted,” Jimmy said. “As soon as we were told they were found together and were pair bonded, we knew they had to stay together.”

What a wonderful story. Not only was Corky found thanks to his microchip, but a lonely stray found a home. Heartwarming stuff.
