Kylie Jenner is definitely not playing a part in my family's Halloween

So I've just learned that I'm a massive 'buzzkill' because I won't allow my daughter to dress up as Kylie Jenner for Halloween.

I'm “majorly missing the point” apparently.

While I'm against the idea of my 13-year-old dressing as the youngest Kardashian sister, she's lamenting the fact I'm refusng to think outside the box.

Yes, she may want to wear a push-up bra, outrageously line her lips and don a turquoise wig, but apparently it's simply a commentary on society's obsession with reality television stars.

“That may be honey, but the the vast majority of people who see you that night will not know you're being 'ironic',” I patiently explained.

“I'll tell them,” she pouted.

“You'll totter over to each and every person you pass while trick or treating and tell them that while you may be dressed like Kylie Jenner, you're actually against everything she stands for?”

“Look Mum, that's what Halloween is all about. You don't have to like the person you dress up as. Do you think every devil you open the door to this Halloween is into satanism?”

How is my daughter, who is mature enough to argue her point so succinctly, unable to see my perspective on this, I wondered.

“I know that, Rebecca”, I began. “But whether you're a fan of Kylie Jenner or not, the clothes, make-up and accessories you need to use on the night are simply not approiate for a 13-year-old.”

“It's a costume!” she burst out furiously.

“It may be a costume to you, but to other people, it's not.” I reiterated.

I watched as she folded her arms across her chest and stared out at me from beneath her fringe.

I tried another tactic.

“What do you think when you look at pictures of Kylie Jenner?” I asked.

Rebecca sized me up before answering.

“I think she looks a little tacky,” she ventured, clearly hoping that was the right answer.

Rebecca obviously felt that if she derided the reality star's appearance enough, she may be allowed create a costume on the basis she would never wear it in real life.

“What else do you think?” I continued.

“I wonder why her sisters don't say something. I'm surprised Kris lets her. I know, she's 18 but still,” she continued, clearly loosening up.

“Bingo. I smiled. “I'm your mum and you're only 13 so you shouldn't be surprised I'm not letting you. Now go choose something else.”
