Who does Kris Jenner think she's fooling?

Reality TV matriarch and world-famous momager, Kris Jenner, came out this week and said she was “really upset” by her daughter’s decision to get lip fillers before the age of 18.

The idea of your child going under the surgeon’s knife at any age would distress any mother, but here’s the thing, Kris was in a position to stop it.

While the Kardashian / Jenner family set-up is far from typical, does their international fame mean that Kris must sacrifice all parental rights and ignore all maternal instinct?

I don't think so.

Kris is no shrinking violet; this is a woman who is known, the world over, as capable, strong-willed and controlling – if Kris didn’t want Kylie getting lip fillers, then you can be damn sure Kylie wouldn’t have been getting lip fillers.

Let's look at the facts, the Kardashian family's international notoriety is based largely on their looks - something even the most dedicated fan can't dispute.

With her three eldest daughters from her first marriage to Robert Kardasian sporting naturally raven locks, curvaceuous figures and stunning looks largely attributed to their Armenian heritage, Kris was all set on that front.

And then there’s Kendall.

Her eldest daughter from her 23-year-marriage to former Olympian Bruce Jenner is a tall, lithe fashion model, who has walked for the likes of Tommy Hilfiger, Diane Von Fursterberg and Donna Karan, and currently heads up the latest generation of young supermodels.

And then there was the lovely Kylie.

Still growing and changing in front of the television cameras, the teen was unlikely to yet boast the same buxom figures as her three eldest sisters nor was she likely to suddenly sprout an extra six inches which would deem her worthy of a runway appearance, so Kylie set about creating a persona all of her own.

A young girl amid a whirlwind of ‘perfection’, publicity and paparazzi, Kylie faded largely into the background until action was taken.

When Kylie’s lips got bigger, so did her stardom.

When her boobs started getting higher, so did her profile.

And when her hair colour started changing, so did her luck.

Is it really likely that Kris was ’upset’ by her daughter’s decision to create a look more akin to a 90s Hollywood wannabe if it meant the family stayed in the headlines?

There will, after all, come a time when Kourtney, Kim and Khloe will want to step out of the limelight, and who will Kris manage then?

Coming from a woman who managed to leverge her daughter's leaked sex tape into a million-dollar empire, are we really meant to believe she suffered sleepless nights over some lip fillers?

Is she really as upset as she claims or am I getting more cynical by the day?
