Why I don't feel bad for lying to my children on a daily basis

I lie alot.

I hear myself do it on a daily basis and yet, I don't feel an ounce of guilt.

While we tell our children that lying to people and deceiving family members is morally wrong and not something that is accepted under our roofs, that doesn't stop most of us mums doing it day in and day out.

From white lies to Mummy fibs, there are very few of us who make it to bed-time without the help of a little devil on our shoulder who reminds us that telling a small lie will make the day that much simpler.

If you think you're the exception to the rule, let me remind you of the many occasions in which you told a bare-faced lie to your child or fibbed with wild abandon during a conversation with the playground mums.

Here are just ten lies I have told in recent days.

1. “Your daddy is going to hear about this, believe me.”

As if - He won't see the problem and it's not worth the stress of explaining.

2. “Nobody laughed at you or your costume, honey.”

They laughed and I took note of every single one of them.

3. “Ghosts are not real.”

But what about that YouTube video I saw? That looked a bit real to me.

4. “I rationed the kids' treats over the last few days.”

Well, I definitely planned to.

5. “Their half-term project was left in their Nana's house over the holidays.”

Bought myself another couple of days and proud of it!

6. “I don't know where your illuminous shrieking witch's broom is, baby.”

I know where it is and it's never seeing the light of day again.

7. “If daddy says no, he means no.”

He doesn't mean no – he'll crack at any minute.

8. “Next year we'll remember to start our costume preparation on time, I promise.”

Like hell we will. I've better things to be doing.

9. “I can't remember why you don't like these sweets honey, but you definitely don't.”

I'm not feeding my child that poison.

10. “Oh of course, I'm looking forward to Santa coming, pet.”

Where has this year gone?
