The Bloody Big Brunch is being held in a chic London restaurant and we LOVE the idea.

The charity event is being held to highlight period poverty in both the UK and worldwide.

The awareness campaign will also allow you the perfect excuse to enjoy some midday drinking.

The restaurant-come-bar is accepting period products such as pads and tampons as currency in exchange for a bloody mary.

Organisers want to get the conversation flowing around women struggling to afford basic sanitary needs.

Shockingly in the UK, Plan International reports one in 10 girls across the UK are unable to buy sanitary products.

The brunch aims to break down the stigma surrounding the subject, by travelling around the country.

Organisers will be The Book Club restaurant in London on June 2.

Those interested in chowing down and getting to grips with the financial challenges women encounter with sanitary products are invited to attend between 12 noon til 4 pm.

There will be soakage for the boozy available, as the restaurant has a full lunch menu in operation.

The idea offers no gimmicks as each and every feminine hygiene product donated will go to women who need them most.

The transaction from pads to sipping bloody marys has been made simple.

The Bloody Big Brunch has teamed up with Hey Girls!

The ethical brand runs a buy-one-give-one feminine pad policy.

The social enterprise is on a mission to support girls and young women nationwide.

One of the organisers of the Bloody Big Brunch, Lee Beattie spoke about the charity event.

“It’s time to remove the taboo of talking about periods so we can talk about period poverty.

Taxed as a non-essential luxury item, the reality is that sanitary products should be a basic essential available to all women. So we’re using an actual luxury - brunching with a Bloody Mary in hand - to shine a light on this massive issue that lots of people – women and men – don’t know much about."

“Nobody should feel shame about menstruation, nor should they have to resort to uncomfortable substitutes or no sanitary products at all. By getting bloody talking over a Bloody Mary, we can start helping those in need – and putting pressure on the government for change.”
