Here at MummyPages, we really treasure the all too rare occasion when we get to put our feet up and delve into a really good book. So, when we got our hands on Sinead Moriarty’s brand new book ‘This Child of Mine’, we couldn’t wait to get stuck in.

Sinead Moriarty is a prolific Dublin based author who already has eight bestselling novels under her belt. She has been compared to the First lady of modern women’s fiction, Marian Keyes and it’s easy to see why. She has the power to make you laugh out loud one minute and wipe away a tear the next.

Sophie is a happy 18 year old living a quiet, content life in London with her mother, Anna. She has no other family in her life so Anna commits her life to Sophie, making sure she wants for nothing.
Meanwhile, Laura is a not so happy artist who also has a daughter called Mandy. But Laura is haunted by the loss of her first daughter Jody. Happy as she is, Mandy lives in Jody’s shadow and wonders why her mother just can’t let go.
Both mothers carry deep hidden secrets and everything will be utterly changed forever the day their lives spectacularly collide.

Sinead has written a breathtaking, rollercoaster ride of a book that will keep readers enthralled until the very last page. This book tackles delicate issues such as teenage pregnancy and abduction with extraordinary sensitivity but it’s also a book that has plenty of light-hearted moments scattered throughout. Just like Marian Keyes, Sinead skilfully weaves from the dark to the light with apparent effortlessness.

‘This child of mine’ is a moving and honest story about the desire to become a mother and the intense, unbreakable bond that exists between a mother and daughter. It’s a story that lingers long after the last page has been turned and one you won’t be able to resist passing on to your sister, mother, best-friend or daughter. It’s a book to be cherished and simply enjoyed.

‘This Child of Mine’ by Sinead Moriarty is published by penguin, RRP €14.99
