A group of school basketball players were on their way home from a game when they realised that something wasn't right.
Drew and Walker Timmie, as well as their friends Bryce Johnson and Will Newberry had just won a game for their high school located in Dallas, Texas.
They realised something was wrong when the turned the corner to a street covered in smoke.
“On the way to my house, the road was covered in smoke,” Drew told Inside Edition.
The boys jumped into action, calling 911 and running into the smoke-filled house.
“I went up to the door and saw there’s this kid there just kind of walking back and forth and he didn't really know what was going on,” Drew explained.
One of the children in the house was autistic, and didn't understand that he was in danger. The boys yelled to try and rose the other occupants, including the sleeping mother.
They got the family and their dogs across the street, but there was still someone missing.
“The wife said the dad was in the backyard and he was actually trying to put out the fire by himself." Will said. "He just had a garden hose and he was trying to put it out, but it was overwhelming."
Eventually emergency services arrived on the scene, thanks to the teenagers quick-thinking, nobody was hurt.
Despite being hailed as heroes, the boys claim that their actions were mainly "instinct"
“We were just doing the right thing,” Will added. “You know, that’s just what we should do for our neighbours and take care of our community like that.”
With teenagers these days getting such a bad reputation, it's heartwarming to see such brave and heroic young men taking care of their neighbours.
