A mum has been left outraged after her 12-year-old daughter was sent home from school for forgetting to pay a £1 donation.

Ternic Aciro was given the choice of either staying in isolation all day or going home, after failing to make an online donation for her school’s non-uniform day.

The girl’s mother, Brenda, has slammed the Essex school for its treatment of her daughter, branding it as discriminatory.

Brenda told the Mail Online that she is shocked by the school’s reaction to what she considers to be a simple mistake: “To be told to go into isolation or be sent home because I didn’t pay is ridiculous. I just completely forgot to pay it.”

As well as being angry over the school’s decision to send Ternic home without speaking to her first, Brenda is also concerned by what she views as “bullying” tactics.

“It’s totally wrong because how can you punish my child in front of her class? That is a form of discrimination, bullying, really," she said.

The school does not view its actions as unreasonable however, and has stuck by its decision.

A spokesperson from the school said: “The second [named] contact agreed it was okay to send the child home to get changed. The rules are fair and we will always try our best to work closely with parents and pupils.”
