If left untreated, blepharitis can lead to eye infections because of the constant irritation of the eye surface. In order to minimize the risk of serious complications then you should follow the treatment plan you and your health care provider have devised for your child.  If your child’s symptoms of blepharitis seem to worsen then you should seek medical attention. The complications which can arise due to blepharitis are:
 
  • Chalazion
  • Conjunctivitis
  • Corneal abrasions or scarring
  • Loss of eyelashes
  • Periorbital cellulitis
  • Scarring of the eyelids
