Conjunctivitis in its nature will often cure itself without any treatment. Antibiotic eye drops or ointment will only be prescribed in the case of bacterial conjunctivitis. There are very few complications which arise from conjunctivitis. It is however, necessary to maintain proper hygiene which will reduce the risk of contamination or reinfection within a household or crèche. Ensure to keep his clothes, towels, and bedding separate from everyone else’s. If your child or teenager wears contact lenses then it is advisable not to use them while the eye is infected. You should always consult with your G.P. as if the infection is bacterial antibiotics may be required.
