Fortunately, there are few complications which arise from myopia.

In very rare circumstances severe cases of myopia can lead to the following:

  • Retinal detachment, where the inner layer of the eye detaches from the retina.
  • Glaucoma, some cases of myopia can lead to increased fluid pressure which in later life could lead to glaucoma.
  • Cataracts, higher chance of developing cataracts
  • Macular degeneration, this occurs when the retina degenerates and results in reduced vision.
