The weekends are all about family time, especially if both you and your partner work during the week. Often you will sit down at the table to enjoy a leisurely breakfast on Saturday or Sunday, but what about the rest of the week? Monday to Friday mornings are hectic, we know we live through them every day, but that doesn’t mean they should be forgotten about as being a way to spend time as a family.

Here are five tips to help you sit down in the morning and enjoy some time together, which is a really nice way to start the day.

Set the table the night before
Set the table the night before so all you need to do is grab the milk, pop on the kettle and sit down. Having everything there ready to go will mean you are more inclined to sit down.

A quick 15 minutes is all it takes
We’re not talking about you spending a long time sitting down to eat, 15 minutes is all it takes. In fact, the time it takes for you to eat a bowl of cereal or drink a cup of tea is enough. The weekday mornings are going to be crazy without adding a leisurely breakfast to the mix. Sitting down at the table is the most important part, not how long you are there for.

Get everyone involved
Make sure everyone is on board with the family breakfast idea. While it might not be met with a fanfare of excitement at the prospect of getting up earlier, over time it will eventually become habit, so stick with it.

Don’t have choices
Unless your child has a food intolerance, everyone in the family should eat the same thing in the morning. One of the easiest and healthiest ways to start your day is with a bowl of porridge. All you need to do is let it slowly cook in a saucepan while everyone gets dressed, and when everyone is ready you can sit down and enjoy it together.

Get up earlier
In order to make the commitment to have breakfast as a family during the week you will have to get up earlier. We’re not talking an hour or even 30 minutes, just 15 minutes – the time it takes to prepare, make and eat the food. It’s not a lot to ask and in return you will be given precious time with your children and other half.
