A four-year-old girl remains in a critical condition in Leeds General Infirmary after being shot in the head with an arrow on Saturday.

It is being reported that the youngster, who had surgery following the incident, has been taken off life support but is still in a serious way.

The incident is believed to have occurred when a crossbow misfired in their home in Illingworth, Halifax.

West Yorkshire Police have said her injuries were not intentional.

"Enquiries are ongoing to determine precisely how this girl has come to be injured,” Detective Inspector Gary Stephenson, of Calderdale District CID, told the Express.

"Our investigations suggest she was not intentionally injured and an 18-year-old male is assisting us with our enquiries.

"Specially trained officers are working to support her family as our investigations continue."
