When a kid wants a pet, they will stop at nothing to make their fluffy friend a reality, even if that means hijacking their father's early morning reading material.

Journalist Brendan Greeley was setting about his morning routine of reading the papers, when he noticed something extra on the headlines.

It was a scribbled not from his 8-year-old daughter, saying:

"Can I PLEASE get a PUPPY? A real one!"

Greeley instantly saw the funny side to the persuasive note.

"Having studied my habits and preferences, ny daughter hacking my attention this morning for her political agenda."

Speaking to TODAY, the economics writer said that he is proud of his daughter's intelligent negotiation techniques.

"She really did do behaviour analysis. She watched my habits on how I would sit down in the morning and read the newspaper. And she figured out how to get my attention."

The tweet racked up over 37,000 retweets, including one from J.K Rowling:

Greeley and his wife, Beth, were understandably sceptical about getting a new puppy to first. With four kids and a black Labrador, they already have their hands full. But eventually they bowed to Internet pressure.

Just look at this little guy!

Due to the amount of attention the puppy campaign received, Greeley asked twitter users to donate to local SPCA charities, like the shelter where they got the new puppy.

As Greeley updated his Twitter bio:

"Wife, children, dog AND NOW EVIDENTLY A DAMN PUPPY, TOO"

The best bit of the story? They called the puppy J.K. Growling. We can't even!

A magical end to one pup's tale!
