It’s not news that most ads represent family mornings unrealistically. These ads are usually saturated in HD colour, are eye-wateringly bright and show unstressed mums and dad with massive smiles plastered on their faces. And if that wasn’t unrealistic enough for you, the houses in them are actually clean and tidy. Are they having a laugh?
So we got a good giggle from this US ad which tells it like it really is. No Stepford wife-esque “Here darling, drink up your freshly squeezed OJ and homemade blueberry and chia seed pancakes before school”. Nope, this ad shows mums brushing their teeth tiredly in grubby old dressing gown, or attempting a bit of a tidy before work, or using a scarf to cover a stain on their top.
The commercial starts by humorously ‘sending’ up the unrealistic ads and then shows the reality, cleverly backing it up by actual statistics – which we reckon even more starkly highlights the disparity between real life and the fake, saccharine ads.
We for one think it’s darn refreshing!
Give us a break ads, will you? Are you kidding us? Show us one mum who’s unflappable with kids to get out of the door for school and work to go to and we’ll eat our hats.
