Sometimes, the generosity of the human spirit is truly amazing, and one US father has experienced this first-hand this week.

Alex Green, a single father whose partner died in a car crash during the summer, has been overwhelmed with donations after appealing for breast milk for his infant son.

Alex, who runs an artisan soap company, lost his partner, Catherine Twete in a car accident in June, when their son Brody was just three months old.

In an appeal to the Portland Mamas Facebook page, Alex revealed that he was trying to honour her wishes for their son by feeding him with breast milk in her absence.

“His mother wanted to breastfeed him until he was a year old. So for the past four months I have continuously been seeking out breast milk donations. And that is what I am doing now,” he wrote.

It was when Alex came up short on supply that he took to Facebook looking for help, and the move has paid off – the donations have been pouring in since he first posted his message last Friday.

Now, with enough breast milk to feed Brody until he turns one, Alex has expressed his gratitude to the wonderful people who have come to his aid.

Speaking to a local news station, Alex said: “I was willing to do whatever it takes to do that for him. I’m no hero in this situation. I think people donating their time and breast milk are the ones who should be acknowledged. I’m just an average, ordinary guy trying to take care of his son.”

We’re thinking of Alex and little Brody at this time.
