There has been a lot of research done which suggests that there taking certain herbal remedies can boost the production of breastmilk. The most common of these are fenugreek and milk thistle, taken together daily they are meant to promote milk supply. As with all forms of medication you should check with your pharmacist before you take any herbal remedy.

Fenugreek and milk thistle seem to work best if taken together and usually act quite quickly. You should notice increased milk production within 12 to 24 hours of taking them. If you don’t notice any improvement then it probably isn’t going to work for you. When taking fenugreek you should notice a smell on your skin, if you don’t you probably aren’t taking enough.

There are lots of other herbal remedies you can try also including; fennel, raspberry leaf, alfalfa, nettle, and goat’s rue. You can also try eating oatmeal daily and taking garlic and ginger in moderation.

If you feel that you are not producing enough milk you should also ensure that your baby is latching on correctly as this is the most common reason mothers think they have low milk supply.
