Making money at car boot sale can be tough; the setting up, paying your entrance fee and packing the items away is sometimes not worth the €20 or €30 that you might make. However, with a little bit of preparation and planning you can earn a lot more than that.

If you are planning on going to a car boot sale this week, make sure you have a read of the following tips beforehand.

1. Do your research

Before you decide on which car boot sale you are going to set up in, do your research about which is the best one – some are more popular than others.

2. Where to set up

When you have decided where you plan on selling figure out where the best place to set up is. The middle is usually the best as people normally walk past the first few stands and linger there.

3. Don’t overload your table

Nobody wants to buy from a messy table so don’t put everything on display. Instead, keep some stuff in the car and, when you’ve sold something, you can replace it.

4. Hang up your clothes

The best way to display your clothes is to hang them up on a rail – they are easier to look at, easier to riffle through and look better.

5. Provide shade, if possible

Nobody wants to riffle through items if the sun is beaming down on their head or if it’s raining. If possible, set up a marquee or canopy over your table.

6. Use price tags

While we recommend you price everything, you should also be willing to haggle – it’s the best part of the car boot sale!

7. Be inviting

Smile, play some music, offer tea and coffee – anything to entice people over to your table.

8. Have bags

If you have a stash of plastic bags in the cupboard bring them along – it encourages people to buy more than they can carry!
