Paddy McGuinness has opened up about his family life in a tear jerking interview. The TV presenter got honest about raising children with autism during an appearance on John Bishop: In Conversation With.

He told John Bishop about his five-year-old twins Leo and Penelope who have autism. “With the autism, for me, the more I saw it and the more they had really bad days, I’d get so down, you know, I’d be like, depression and different things would wash over me.”

The Take Me Out presenter praised his wife Christine who has stood by their kids through thick and thin: “Christine, as a mother, couldn’t bear to be away from ’em. And so that’s where we were different straight away.”

“She’s just fantastic. She helps me ’cos she looks at things differently… I love the kids to bits and I do stuff with ’em, and they amaze me and I start seeing it from how Christine sees it," he gushed.

Paddy admitted that his relationship with wife Christine has been through quite a rocky stage as of late. “Some days it’s a wonder how we’re still together, me and Christine, because you can’t sort of do the normal things that you would as a couple.”

He explained how being a parent to special needs children can affect your day-to-day life.

“I can count on one hand the amount of times we’ve been on a night out together, because you can’t just have a babysitter. You can’t just say ‘I’ll drop ’em off at me relatives to look after’ ’cos it’s not like that,” Paddy said.

The dad-of-three also revealed that he is working on a TV show about being a parent of autistic children.
