A marriage is not all romantic strolls and cuddles in the park, it takes hard work and dedication to keep it strong, fresh and fun. Often everyday life takes over and you can lose sight of your relationship with your husband as it takes a back burner against homework, jobs and spending time with the kids.

With a little bit of effort though you can keep your marriage happy and healthy for a long, long time.

Be respectful
Be respectful of each other's opinions. While you may not agree on everything they say or do you need to respect their decision to do things their own way. Compromise is key to ensuring both parties are happy.

Experience new things together
While it is good to have your own hobby or special interest, it is also important you do things together. Unfortunately, it can be hard for both of you to join the same evening class, as babysitters will be needed, but there are other things you can do. Start watching a box set together or learn how to cook new recipes each week in your own kitchen.

Apologise
Don’t let arguments fester. If you do disagree over something, don’t walk away in a huff. Stay there and sort it out. Letting it fester will just prolong the misery and leave you both resentful of each other. Find a resolution there are then and give each other a hug when finished.

Plenty of PDAs
Public displays of affection (PDAs) are not just for teenagers. Hold hands with your other half when you go walking, hug and kiss each other when you are out and about. Remember what it was like when you first started going out, when you could barely keep your hands off each other.

Put away the phone
You probably try really hard not to look at your phone while the kids are around, and it is important you do the same when you are with your husband. Look at each when you are talking, not over a blue screen.

Inquire about their day
Ask about each other’s day and show interest in what they get up to when you are aren’t together. Not only will it help you to both feel connected it will also mean you have other things to talk about besides the kids.
