As we know, toys play an important part in our child’s early development, so we love toy brands that move with the times and reflect society’s progression in their products.

And now one of our favourite toy brands, Lego, has released a stay-at-home dad and working mum family unit!

Launched at this year’s New York City Toy Fair, the family will be part of the new 'Lego City’ line of figurines, which, as we recently reported, will also include a child in a wheelchair.

The new figurines are an attempt by the company inclusively represent the modern world, says president of LEGO Systems Soren Torp Laursen.

“We need to stay in tune with the world around us," Soren told Fortune. “We aren't responding to demand from anyone. We are trying to portray the world around us and listen to our consumer base.

“We are all part of the same world and we need to portray that to the best of our abilities.”

As toys are an important part of our children's socialisation, we're heartened to see toy companies like Lego realise the social responsibility they have to the children who play with their products.

SHARE if you think these new figurines are a valuable addition to the Lego world!
