“THANK YOU for making a doll like me.”
We couldn’t help crying happy tears when we saw this gorgeous video of a little girl with a prosthetic leg who was surprised with a doll who’s ‘just like her’.
Mum Courtney Fletcher Bennett shared the video of her daughter Emma’s reaction to meeting her new doll for the first time.
“Read the letter, read the letter, you’re gonna love this!” says her little sister excitedly as they hand her the box.
Emma reads the first line of the letter, rips back to box to reveal the doll’s leg and gasps, “You gotta be kidding me!”
And then, when the realisation dawns of what this means to her, she breaks down in tears (and that would be around the time we do the same!)
“She’s got a leg like me!” she sobs in disbelief, while her family look on in tears.
Emma’s doll was fitted with the prosthetic by company A Step Ahead Prosthetics, based in New York, which makes real prosthetic limbs.
And amazingly, a spokesperson for the company told BuzzFeed News it will “customize a doll with prosthetics at no charge to anyone who wants to send one”.
The spokesperson added that the customised dolls “can have a profound effect on the self-esteem and sense of inclusion” of kids with limb loss. We think Emma’s reaction to her new friend just proved that.
