Kids are often told that they're too young or too small to do things.

But this time, their tininess is what stood to them.

Rafe Spuler and Mia Rabii have rescued over a dozen baby animals over the past few days, and it's all because they're so small (well, and kind...).

Over the weekend, volunteers from South Charlotte Dog Rescue, in North Carolina, were in a desperate fight to save a group of young puppies and their mother, a stray.

The dog had given birth to her litter deep inside a underground drainage ditch, but wandered out to watch from afar when people came to help. Rescuers weren't sure how they'd ever get the puppies out.

Fortunately, 9-year-old Rafe was there. He bravely traversed the dark tunnel until all five puppies were saved.

"He's a great little guy, very brave," Rafe's mum Danielle told The Dodo. "He didn't hesitate when he heard there was a rescue that needed to happen. And he was the right size to do the work."

As if that wasn't heartwarming enough, the puppies were later reunited with their mum, and they're all safe and sound in foster care.

Meanwhile in California, six-year-old Mia Rabii was out with her mum when they came across a duck who needed their help.

It seems the mother duck was distraught having lost her ducklings down a drainage pipe. The little creatures were so tiny they just slipped down.

But the pipe was so narrow that no adults were able to fit inside - which is where little Mia came in.

She was able to delicately pull the eight baby ducks to safety, before reuniting them with their relieved mum!

"I am incredibly proud of my daughter's actions to help  the smallest beings," Mia's mum Skye wrote online.

"I am also grateful for the family that asked for our help, they tried their best to help the babies, but it required just the right arm size and right attitude to get it done!"
