Having a bad day?

That’s what happened to Jess McGinty yesterday.

First, the Australian mum slept in. Why? Because she’d been up with her two young kids half the night, and because she’s pregnant and struggling to get some kip.

When she woke up, she was in a mad rush to get her kids to school. That’s when things went further south – she realised she had no bread, no petrol and only 14 cents in the bank.

Somehow, it all worked out. She calmed herself down, got the kids to school and that was that.

With everything sorted, Jess could see the funny side of it all. So she wrote about it on her blog Mish Mash Moments – and what happened next is seriously touching stuff.

Despite the fact that Jess wasn’t asking for help, “people showed up to help anyway.”

The first helper was her mum “with bread and morning tea,” followed by a friend with afternoon tea.

“And then some gorgeous soul left this in my letter box with a $20 Coles voucher.”

While the supermarket voucher will no doubt come in handy, it’s the gesture of kindness that most impressed Jess.

My favourite part is that people helped even though I didn’t ask for it. There is good in the world, and I’m so extremely grateful it is around me.”

“I hope that if they ever need anything, they will definitely ask for help. Or they can come around for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Or just drop in whenever!”

Beautiful. We reckon that sense of community is seriously lacking in our lives today. Here’s hoping it’s on the way back.
