You can never be completely up on the tricks and schemes of a criminal, and hopefully the following warning from a very concerned mum will come to the aid of any potential victims who could be duped.
A woman in the UK has taken to Facebook to warn people about a ‘fake police car’ driving around the Somerset area.
In a post on the social media site, Sarah Chidwick explained how her daughter’s friend had been flagged down by a white Audi with flashing lights, posing as an official police car. When the young man stopped however, the driver allegedly got out and “went to attack him”.
“The driver was not a policeman and went to attack my daughter’s friend. He drove off unharmed, but the Audi gave chase and really scared him. This was a fake police car, it had the flashing lights and, from a distance and in the dark, it looked real,” she wrote.
She added: “Please be extra careful and do not get out of your car if you are unsure. It has been reported to the police."
According to the Bath Chronicle, the ‘fake police car’ was seen in the Yatton area early on Tuesday morning, then again by the Wells by-pass later that afternoon.
Anyone with concerns, who is being asked to pull over, is advised follow this advice from a local police spokesman: "We urge that anyone concerned about the validity of a police officer should ask to see their warrant card and contact the police contact centre on telephone 101 to confirm their identity. A genuine police officer will always be happy for their identity to be verified."
