At 20 weeks, doctors told first time mum Sarah Sharples she was expecting a girl. Sarah and her husband immediately went about preparing for the arrival of their little girl. They decorated her nursery room in pink with a stencil of her name, Lily-Mae, on the wall and set it up with pink furniture. They bought pink girlie clothing, blankets and bottles – everything they could think of. First time mum Sarah wanted to be totally prepared for the arrival of her princess, she said:
'I wanted everything to be perfect for her so that she would want for nothing. Being prepared was my main concern, and seeing as I knew I was having a girl I didn't see the harm in buying everything in pink.'
At 36 weeks, Sarah went into labour, and when they were being handed their newborn baby, the midwife congratulated them on the birth of their son. The young couple were utterly shocked. They decided to call their gorgeous little boy Joseph, and set about changing everything they had bought – some things were not so easy to change, especially personalied gifts which they have put away (for now); other items were easily changed, such as clothing, and the nursery which now has a Monsters Inc theme.
