We understand that schools have to have a dress code, but are our children being policed a little too much – particularly our girls?

A stunned mum was angry and upset when her tearful daughter told her she was forced to change into grey tracksuit bottoms at school. The reason? The top she wore over her leggings was apparently ‘too short’.

“B got a dress code violation for this today,” the US girl’s mum Kimberly Jones wrote on a post on her Facebook page. “She texted me all upset sobbing that they told her not to call me and that she had to wear borrowed sweatpants all day. Their policy is that they are not allowed to change. She was begging to move because they embarrassed and harassed her. Why? Because apparently 13 year old boys can't control themselves around this.

“The code was because her shirt was too short. In what world is it acceptable to call out and embarrass a child over THIS outfit? Her butt is even covered!

“As I sat there waiting for the principal I saw a teacher walk by with pants so tight I could see her underwear...but this is unacceptable? Are we living in the 1900s? And am I being punked because I just cannot believe this crap is real.”

Kimberly’s post have been shared over 2,000 times, with commenters roundly condemning the school for ‘sexualising’ young girls with these enforced dress codes.

“It infuriates me that somehow we (women/girls) are responsible for the feelings and actions of boys/men,” said one commenter. “That's the most insane BS I've ever heard.”

“Poor B for the uncalled for, sexist, body shaming of a beautiful (and fully covered) little girl!” said another.

While one infuriated commenter went straight for the jugular: “I am at a loss. Why on earth would you humiliate a child? Why on earth is what she's wearing inappropriate? You try and raise emotionally healthy kids and a*****e Neanderthals like this chip away at their fragile self-esteem. I would have been a wild animal in that principal's office. This is NOT okay.”

Where do you stand on this mums? We would love to hear your thoughts!
