Police in Bolton are appealing to the public for information after an attempted abduction of a ten-year-old child.

According to reports, a man grabbed the youngster’s school bag before trying to get his arm as he walked through a woodland close to the Red Lane junction on Bailey Lane in Breightmet.

The man, who was wearing a yellow top and black trousers, is being described as white, around 30-years-old and with a red mark under his eye.

Releasing a statement, Detective Inspector Charlotte Cadden, GMP said: ''We have extra reassurance patrols in the area and are working closely with local schools during the school run to ensure the safety of the children."

"I’m urging anyone who has any information to contact police as soon as possible. Also, if you think you were the man walking with two children to school that morning, please get in touch.”

Thankfully, another man who was with two children managed to distract the attacker so the youngster could escape.

Anyone with information is being asked to contact the police on 101.
