It is said that you cannot take your eyes off of your child for even a split-second, and the following report proves just how dangerously true that saying is.
Police have appealed to the public for information, after a two-year-old child was approached by a stranger and 'offered sweets' in the Hartlepool area.
According to reports, the incident occurred on Thursday afternoon close to the gate of Stranton Primary School, while the child’s mother was bent down tying her shoelace.
The man is said to have approach the child and offered sweets and chocolate, which he said were in his car. When the mother realised what was happening she grabbed her child, and the man ran away down a nearby alleyway.
The man is described as being in his thirties, of skinny build, and with a ‘foreign’ accent.
Police have asked anyone who witnessed the incident, or who may have valuable information to get in touch with them immediately. You can do so by calling 101 and asking for PC Julie Nicholson, or by contacting Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
